Cairn Terms of Service

Cairn is an exploration and shared-memory app from Quark Studios. These terms apply to your use of Cairn, including accounts, cairns, contributions, Pebbles, and memberships. By using Cairn, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. Our Child Safety Standards describe our rules for protecting children.

1. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 13 years old and meet any higher minimum age required where you live. If you cannot legally agree to these terms yourself, a parent or legal guardian must agree on your behalf and supervise your use.

Provide accurate account information, keep your credentials secure, and do not impersonate another person or access their account without permission. Tell us at support@mycairn.space if you believe your account has been compromised.

2. Explore safely

Cairn is not an emergency service or a guarantee that a location is safe, accessible, or open to the public. Maps, coordinates, routes, and proximity estimates may be inaccurate or outdated.

Use your judgment, obey local laws and closures, obtain permission when needed, and respect private property, wildlife, protected areas, and cultural sites. Never trespass, enter dangerous or restricted areas, or use Cairn while driving or operating machinery. Do not create or promote cairns that require unsafe or unlawful access. A cairn's presence does not give you permission to enter a location or leave physical objects there.

In an emergency, contact local emergency services.

3. Your content and shared cairns

You retain the rights you hold in your uploaded content. You must own it or have permission to share it, including any permissions required for identifiable people or private information.

You give Quark Studios a non-exclusive permission to host, store, process, reproduce, and display your content as needed to operate Cairn, share it through the app's features, maintain security, and enforce these terms. This permission does not transfer ownership of your content to us. It continues only as needed for those purposes and the retention practices described in our Privacy Policy.

Collecting or carrying a cairn does not give you ownership of another explorer's contributions. Contributions are generally added to a shared history; ordinary app features may not let you edit or remove every contribution afterward. Account deletion and moderation can remove content as described below.

Hidden, sealed, and time-capsule features control discovery and access within Cairn. They do not guarantee confidentiality or prevent an authorized viewer from copying content. Do not upload passwords, sensitive documents, or information you cannot safely share.

4. Content and conduct rules

Do not submit, promote, or facilitate:

  • Illegal material, child sexual abuse material, grooming, exploitation, or sexualization or endangerment of children.
  • Pornography, explicit sexual content, or non-consensual intimate material.
  • Threats, targeted harassment, hateful abuse, stalking, or disclosure of someone's private information without permission.
  • Violence, dangerous challenges, self-harm encouragement, trespass, or other unsafe or unlawful activity.
  • Scams, impersonation, spam, malicious links, or illegal goods and services.
  • Content that infringes copyright, trademarks, privacy, or other rights.

Do not forge location or activity to obtain rewards, exploit balances or purchases, interfere with the service, bypass access controls, or attempt unauthorized access to accounts or data. These rules apply to cairns, media, profiles, usernames, and other submissions.

5. Reports and moderation

Use the app's reporting controls or contact support@mycairn.space to report unsafe locations, abusive behavior, or content violations. Include enough detail to identify the issue, but do not redistribute harmful material.

We may investigate reports, remove or restrict content, suspend or close accounts, and respond to lawful requests when needed for safety, security, legal compliance, or enforcement. Content may appear before it is reviewed. We do not promise continuous monitoring or a fixed response time. You can contact support to request review of an enforcement decision.

6. Pebbles, purchases, and memberships

Basic account setup, discovery, and collecting do not require a purchase. Optional purchases may provide Pebbles or membership benefits. The price, currency, billing period, benefits, and any introductory conditions shown at checkout apply to your purchase.

Pebbles are digital resources for use within Cairn. They are not money, have no cash-redemption value, and cannot be sold or transferred outside supported app features.

Memberships may renew automatically under the terms displayed by your app store until you cancel. Manage or cancel through your Apple or Google subscription settings. Uninstalling Cairn or deleting your Cairn account does not cancel a store subscription.

Purchases and benefits require verification. If confirmation is delayed, use Restore Purchases or contact support rather than buying the same item again. Monthly Pebble allowances apply to verified paid membership periods; free trials do not include a monthly Pebble grant unless expressly stated in the offer. Refunds or reversed payments may reverse associated benefits or credits.

Refund eligibility and procedures depend on applicable law and the store through which you paid. See Apple's refund guidance or Google Play's refund policy. These terms do not limit mandatory refund or consumer rights.

7. Deleting your account

You can request deletion through Profile → My Account → Delete account, or follow our Data Deletion instructions.

Confirmed deletion removes your sign-in identity, profile, owned uploads, your contributions, collection records, and in-app balance from active Cairn systems. Cairns with no other explorer's participation are removed. Shared cairns may retain other explorers' contributions and physical trail history, with your attribution replaced by a deleted-explorer marker. Shared cairns you hold are released at their last recorded location when available.

Deletion cannot erase copies held by other users or records independently retained by app stores and other providers. Restricted operational records and backups may remain as described in our Privacy Policy. If deletion is not confirmed, retry or contact support.

Deleting your account does not automatically cancel subscriptions or issue a refund. Remaining in-app balances are removed with the account, subject to rights that applicable law requires us to preserve.

8. Availability and your rights

Features may change, and access may be interrupted for maintenance, security, or technical reasons. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, exact location accuracy, or permanent preservation of content. Keep your own copies of memories you want to retain.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, remedies, or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory consumer protections continue to apply.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Cairn changes. We will publish the revised terms with an updated effective date and provide additional notice where required. Changes apply prospectively, subject to applicable law. If you do not agree to revised terms, stop using Cairn; you can request account deletion and cancel store subscriptions separately.
